13. Link to blog from 4 of my other blogs, including 2 of my blogger blogs. Add FAQ, privacy and contact pages to my site. 1 hour

14. Add my site to links network. Submit RSS Feeds. 10 mins

15. Completely rewrite 25 PLR articles and set them up for sporadic posting over the next month or so. Submit those too. 8 hours

16. Submit site to directories using a directory submission service 30 mins

17. Write and submit a press release 1 hour

18. Write and submit various classified ads 2 hours

19. (Potential to buy links but Google may frown on this practice. Buyer beware!) 1 hour

20. Forum posting (genuine, not Spam), include Warrior Forum Special Offer 5 hours

21. Install ad tracking codes on certain campaigns to measure return on time/money invested 1 hour

22. Rifle shot approach to top listings in Google and other target sites, contacting each site individually and exploring advertising/joint venture opportunities. 5 hours

TOTAL, give or take 40 hours

* Please note that it takes about 5 minutes per account to register for each social bookmarking sites. So, if you don’t have any accounts set up as yet, please allow yourself around 3 hours to set up 30 odd accounts.

So, there you have it. Appreciate it that this might be a bit overkill for some blogs but thought it might cut out a lot of guesswork for others.

Get Your RSS Feed Listed Within Hours at Yahoo

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrecholee @ 10:30 pm

Get Your RSS Feed Listed Within Hours At Yahoo is another article which tells you how to
submit your feed to Yahoo! For further information on
this subject, read below.

Copyright 2005 Tinu AbayomiPaul

Let’s be honest. There’s three types of people in the world.

* Yahoos
* Googlers
* People who are neither, or both.

I’ve been lurking in forums, and I realized something – they seem to be a lot saner than me. But then, almost everyone is.

I’ve been a Google gal for a while. There. I said it. And why not? Google has been good to me.

Yahoo finally has me convinced that they are at minimum, the top contender for the title of heavyweight search engine champion of the world. I now take them very seriously for many reasons.

( I won’t bore you with all of them here – though if you’d like to be bored, see the on-going updates-: http://freetrafficdirectory.com/yes2yahoo – or if you’re new to RSS and don’t get how it can help your marketing, join our discussion – http://www.freetrafficdirectory.com/Forums .)

What really has the potential to turn me into a type 2 or 3 is the attention Yahoo pays to RSS. Like everyone, I heard the big announcement back in February of this year that Yahoo was developing an RSS Directory, and had re-launched their Beta RSS Headlines module of “My Yahoo!”.

Still, I took my time hopping on the “marketing through RSS” bandwagon, though I’ve had feeds on most of my sites since late 2002.

When I finally started using my feeds during some research, I ran across Yahoo’s “Add to My Yahoo!” button on many sites that also carry the orange “XML” insignia,

And I have to say, it shocks me how easy it seems to be to get Yahoo to pay attention to your feed.

The folks at Yahoo tell you that they are forming an RSS Directory on this page: http://my.yahoo.com/s/publishers.html#find

The page goes on to tell you that getting your feed included is as simple as adding your feed to your own “My Yahoo” Page.

You may be thinking, as I was, that this can’t be the same Yahoo we’re talking about. The one whose search engine many secretly hoped would fail, in the off chance that we could go back to the Google-on-Yahoo days? (Don’t look at me. I’m not THAT much of a Google gal.)

But yes, the same Yahoo whose directory many found so difficult to get into in days of yore, lists your feed in their directory almost immediately.

Furthering my investigation, I blew the dust off my own Yahoo page, unused since 2003, scrolled down to the bottom, and clicked the “choose content” button.

They didn’t even try to hide it. In five steps, taking me less than a minute, my link was added.

Under the first section of the options for “My Front Page”, under “My Yahoo! Essentials”, was “RSS Headlines (BETA)New!”. I chose that (step one), and on the next page, all I had to do was type in my news feed, (step two) click search (step four), and then when the page re-loaded, click on the “Finished” button (step five).

I logged into my site’s control panel and checked the logs that show my most recent visitors. I saw the line “YahooFeedSeeker/1.0″, not just at my feed, but at the links it was pointing to, almost immediately.

A few hours later, I went to search the directory for feeds similar to mine. A search for “traffic secret” popped my site up – now that is fast inclusion.

I noticed the next day that every time I updated the portion of my site that has the feed, the number of visitors on that page doubled. So it looks like if you’re not in a crowded niche, now is a great time to add your feed – there were about 48 results for “internet marketing”, but only 7 for “sunglasses”.

Once you’ve submitted, don’t forget to stick one of the “Add to My Yahoo!” buttons in a visible spot on your web property. The following link will take you directly to the instructions at Yahoo:
http://my.yahoo.com/s/publishers.html#promote – or if you’re as lazy as I am, get Yahoo to do the work for you- http://my.yahoo.com/s/button.html .

Want to search Yahoo’s RSS Directory for your site or others? Just go to your “My Yahoo!” page, find where you added the RSS Headlines block and click “Edit”, usually in the upper right hand corner of the block of content.

That will take you to a new page. Now, where you would normally type a URL, type your keyword, or if you know a site has a feed but don’t know the address, type in the home page.

Advanced users can also click on the Import feature to import feeds through their .OPML file. You can display up to 50 feeds per page, but there does not appear to be a limitation on how many feeds you can include in Yahoo.

When does a browse-able version of Yahoo’s RSS Directory open, and how much more traffic can you expect when it does? I haven’t heard any speculation on when the Beta period will be up, but I’d be willing to be it will be soon.

My suggestion? Add your link now, while Yahoo appears to be taking all comers.

Not only do the Search Engines love them for there Content Rich pages, you also have the ability to plug your Blogs “Site Feed” into an RSS feed and then have it syndicated to thousands of websites and directories giving your content more exposure to your target audience.

RSS(Real Simple Syndication) is a very Powerful technology that has been around for quite some time and when used correctly, can build an audience overnight.

This is “Viral Marketing” at its Best in my mind.

And… it’s so simple to implement.

Now it’s time to do the same to your My MSN account as what you did above to your My Yahoo! page.

Here’s the link to go login(click on Sign In from main page): http://www.msn.com

Once your login to your My MSN account you should see an “Add Content” link under the MSN logo to your left. Click on it.

Your RSS Feed Might Look Like Spam

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrecholee @ 10:31 pm

Your RSS Feed Might Look Like Spam warns you about three techniques which may make your RSS feed appear to be spam. Keyword stuffing, RSS feed link farms and creating fake RSS feeds are three things the article suggests you not do. The article goes on to explain the tactics you can take to avoid practices that will make your RSS feed appear to be spam. It would be a good idea to follow this advice.

Author: ksoft na
RSS feeds seem to be the breakout technology for the year. With more users turning to them for driving traffic to their site, it’s no wonder that a trail of RSS feed spam is following in the wake. A careful editing of your RSS feed could make the difference between being classified as genuine content or RSS spam.

RSS search engines are just beginning to pick up steam. As more RSS feeds become searchable, the number of visitors will increase and spam is sure to follow. It is an unfortunate side effect of free communication. While RSS users can typically unsubscribe to feeds they deem as spam, browsing with keywords in an RSS search engine is where the problem arises.

RSS spam largely consists of three main types most often found in the RSS search engines. The first type is keyword stuffing.

Keyword stuffing involves filling each RSS feed article with high-value keywords for a specific topic. The articles are not intended for human visitors, but instead for search engine robots to direct traffic to a target web site. This RSS spam technique is nothing more than an adaptation of the typical keyword-stuffed web page, often banned by major search engines.

The second type involves RSS feed link farms. These RSS articles often contain very little content, if any, other than a simple keyword. Their main attraction is the feed title. Clicking the feed title takes the user to a blog containing tens or hundreds of other blogs and RSS feeds, each directing to more links within the farm. The goal of this type of RSS spam is to trick the user into clicking advertisements or directing them to a product web site.

The third type is the creation of fake RSS feeds. These appear as legitimate, but often duplicated, article content. Whether they provide value or not is certainly debatable. These feeds are usually created in mass, using automated scripts, and appear similar in nature to the link farms. By attracting the users to seemingly valuable content, they hope to gain advertisement clicks or product web site traffic.

Your RSS feed might happen to fall into one of these three categories. While you may currently be experiencing increased traffic from the RSS search engines, these directories are working on filtering out the RSS spam techniques. However, you can still take advantage of RSS feeds and their power by following an RSS-friendly guideline.

Refrain from using automated scripts to create online content used by your RSS feeds. Instead, write your own original thoughts, product descriptions, and reviews. It takes a little more time, but the search engines will value this content much more highly, your visitors will appreciate the unique content, and the subscription count to your RSS feed will grow. It is also important to keep your feed updated with changing content as opposed to using a static feed, which remains the same. Search engines value dynamic feeds and will likely rank you higher as a result.

There are tools and services available, which aid in keeping an RSS feed updated with your changing content. Such services include FeedFire for converting your web site content to a periodically updated RSS feed or software such as FeedForAll for creating and editing RSS feeds.

A successful RSS feed is very much the same as a successful web page. It may take a little more time to digitize your thoughts, but the end result is well worth the effort. By avoiding the tricks in RSS feed spam, you can help make the difference in quality of feeds and enjoyment in your readers.

How to Add RSS Feeds in Five Minutes or Less

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrecholee @ 5:54 pm

How To Add RSS Feeds In Five Minutes Or Less gives you further suggestions on how to create an RSS feed. Step-by-step easy instructions will help you to do this quickly.

Author: Kit Elliott
I’m here to teach you about how RSS Feeds can boost traffic for your website. You may have heard of it, but I guarantee you are not harnessing the full power of the tool. RSS Feeds are very hot, and the marketing pros are getting their websites listed in Google within 2 to 3 days.

What is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication.” Think of RSS this way: Whenever a writer who belongs to a syndicate writes a column, they don’t just write it for their local paper, every article goes up on the newswire and any paper who belongs to the syndicate can reprint it.

First, you have to download an RSS Reader, a program that combines all the news online in one place. You can download a reader for free at www.RssReader.com. Once you’ve downloaded a reader, you can click any topic that suits your need, and only those topics will be delivered right to you..

Why would I put RSS on my website?

An RSS feed can be thought of like this. Let’s take five news sources (Yahoo, MSN, CNN, ESPN, FOX). An RSS reader would scan all five news sources and take each headline and create a summary of the article. Now, you can actually sort the news stories and have only the ones you are interested in delivered right to your website from all five news sources. Search Engines are crawling websites and looking for fresh content. If you have an RSS Feed, you are getting up to the minute news stories. These constantly change whenever a new story comes out. The Search Engines will give you a higher Page Rank because it thinks your page is updated on a regular basis.

How do I add one to my website?

I tried an RSS Feed for the first time, and it took less than five minutes. Here’s what it looks like:

Bush Celebrates Shuttle’s Launch (AP) NASA sends shuttle back into space after long pause (Reuters) Shuttle Discovery Blasts Into Orbit (AP) NASA’s aging workhorse returns to space (AFP) NASA Returns to Flight as Discovery Reaches Orbit (SPACE.com / LiveScience.com)

As you can see, this is my very first RSS Feed. All the news stories within the last hour regarding the shuttle launch are now listed for me and my visitors to read. Guess what? It took less than 5 minutes, and I instantly have an RSS Feed.

Why do I need one?

Search Engines are crawling your site and if you are not providing quality, up to the minute content then you are getting placed further down the rankings. Your competition who has this information is getting FREE advertising from the Search Engines who are placing their page 1st or 2nd when users search for a particular keyword.

How do I put an RSS Feed on my site?

You can now place an RSS Feed on your website in THREE easy steps.

Step 1: Search for topics that you are currently interested in (use Yahoo).

When you see an orange RSS or XML box like the one above, you know that article is compatible with a feed. Copy the URL of the webpage.

Step 2: Go to http://www.feeddigest.com and paste the URL in the digest for them to create a two line code for your webpage. You can also copy and paste the long page of code if you understand programming.

Step 3: In Frontpage, Go to Insert – a web component – html markup and paste the two or three line script that RSS Digest gave you. Check it out! Your first RSS Feed! Try it yourself right now, create your first RSS feed in under five minutes, FREE! The only way you can truly learn about them is for you to JUMP in FEET FIRST!

THE ADVANTAGES OF “RSS WEBSITES”

Filed under: Uncategorized — jrecholee @ 10:41 pm

The Advantages of “RSS Websites” gives you three examples of RSS readers or news aggregators: 1) Desktop RSS readers, 2) Web-based aggregators and 3) Pug-in aggregators/readers for use with your website. The benefits of taking advantage of creating an RSS website are listed, such as for the advantage of search engine optimization.

RSS – or what is now known as “Really Simple Syndication” – is a file format that is incorporated by Internet users in their websites to allow for ‘web syndication’, making their web content available in a format that can be universally understood by other people.

In essence, RSS is a ‘mini database’ that contains headlines and descriptions (a summary or a line or two of the full article) of your web content, including hyperlinks that enable users to link back to the full article of their choice.

RSS websites – that is, websites that contain RSS ‘feeds’ (articles or postings) – typically have colorful graphics to indicate to users that the specific web content is available through RSS feeds. These graphics are usually depicted by orange rectangles that are usually marked with ‘RSS’ or ‘XML’.

With its increased popularity, RSS is now being adopted and used by more website owners or publishers. Today, numerous resources are now available that aid Internet surfers (and even beginners as well) on how to set up and use RSS.

Setting up RSS feeds and adding them to your website can be a simple process that does not involve a lot of time or any money. Listed below are some simple and basic steps that you might want to follow:

1. Have your web content and/or news in an RSS feed format, such as XML (appropriate and ‘ready-made’ feeds are also available from other sources).

2. Click the orange graphic – this is the RSS feed icon. Take note of the URL of the RSS feed; this will be displayed in the address bar (for Internet Explorer).

3. Input the feed URL on your RSS feed creation program.

4. Click on the “Generate Feed” button. This will generate the RSS code for your web content.

5. Enter the RSS code in the appropriate place on your own website.

Having created an RSS feed for your website, next comes the task of publishing your web content and news and having them displayed on other sites and headline viewers. This is made possible with the use of RSS readers or aggregators.

RSS readers or news aggregators are used to view particular web contents. RSS readers contain the collection of ‘feeds’ or RSS files from content providers, and they are generally classified into 3 types:

· Desktop RSS readers – also known as standalone desktop application, they generally ‘run’ in the background and are similar to an e-mail client, collecting the feeds and refreshing items automatically as they are updated.

· Web-based aggregators – these are online services that enable users to personalize web pages, refreshing them each time the page is accessed or each time a person logs in to the service.

· Plug-in aggregators/readers – these make use of either web browsers or e-mail clients, which allow users to view RSS feeds while inside an existing program.

Having an RSS-enabled website provides Internet users (especially those who are website owners) with the following benefits:

· Allows users to generate up-to-date news and postings, as information and content in the RSS readers or aggregators are automatically updated each time the RSS feed is ‘refreshed’.

· Allows users to have control over the information that they wish to view or receive, as they can remove a feed of their choosing any time they want to.

Aside from these benefits, RSS websites are also useful for people who conduct their business in the Internet, particularly in Internet or Online Marketing. RSS can be an effective marketing tool for your website, especially in the following fields:

· E-mail marketing and publishing
· Search engine marketing and optimization
· Business blogging
· Internet advertising
· Digital public relations
· Branding and e-commerce

In addition, RSS can ‘power’ your website, providing you with the following:

· Valuable, updated, and relevant resources for site visitors and potential clients – RSS is ideal for websites that contain (and syndicate) a lot of information that has to be changed or updated regularly.

· Search engine optimization for the website.

· Increased traffic for the website – your website can ‘harvest’ and display information from other sites, driving more traffic to your own website.

· A wide selection of ‘channels’ for content distribution, such as PDA’s, cellular phones, voice mails, and email ticklers.

· A reliable way to have your web content delivered to Internet users and potential clients – RSS ensures that your site is viewed by the people who are interested in them, without having them blocked and ‘cleaned’ by ISPs or Spam filters.

These are just some of the advantages that RSS can give your website (and your business). The possibilities are endless, as more and more comes up almost everyday. Do not be left behind – take the advantage of the marketing and publishing power of RSS.

RSS directories are popular these days. RSS was widely used initially by news sites to allow others to syndicate their news stories. Now, a lot of other websites are using RSS. It is being used in flagging new forum headlines, auction listings, sales listings and others.

The meaning of RSS is actually not clear. RSS may or may not be an acronym, actually. RSS may stand for Really Simple Syndication. But others say its Rich Site Summary and sometimes Rich Syndication Standard. The noted creator of the RSS directory would be Netscape. It was released sometime in March 1999. It included a UserLand application which is called scripting news. Netscape stopped developing it, but UserLand continued doing so. Another company, RSS-DEV Working Group also released their own version.

RSS directories are sites that collate all RSS links and place them in different categories for other applications to use. This is similar to web hosting, only instead of web pages, they contain RSS links. These links will pop out on the website and when you click it, you will be directed to the main source of the link.

RSS poses a lot of uses for those who’d like to use the Internet for marketing or commerce. Here are the things you can do with it:

Create links from their website to yours.
If you are selling or promoting something, web traffic is important. The more RSS directories you upload, the more chances you have of people seeing those and checking your site out. And if they have customized their sites with your RSS feeds, then they would get updated listings from your site to theirs automatically.

Collating analysis.
If you have a brand and you’d like to know how your competitor is doing, you may use RSS to see what they have so far. Get a directory of their product or service so you’ll know first hand what they have come out with. With the data gathered you now can plan on how you can counter them.

Tracking your own progress. If you can check out your competitor, of course you’d like to check out how your business or product is going too. With an RSS directory of your own, you can know how many people are interested in what you are selling or offering.

Increases productivity.
Putting up RSS directories, let’s say for newsletters, adds efficiency to your company. If you use RSS for sending out newsletters instead of mailing them to recipients, you’d eliminate the possibility of your letter being classified as spam by users, or being sent in a closed mail account.

Increases efficiency.
There are a lot of websites or news articles that could be beneficial to your brand or company. At times, you’d like to add them to your site. Without the use of RSS, you’d have to copy the entire thing down and note where you got it. If you use RSS, then the headline and part of the story shows up on your site. And this is an automatic process now. If you use RSS, you just include the directory and automatically, the headline appears without you doing much.

Posting RSS directories could cost you some. But the benefits override it. Some sites even offer free RSS directory posting. If you are just starting up, you may like to check those out. The more RSS directories you have up, the more the possibility that you are sending out information to the people interested in your goods. The reason behind this is that people will only get the RSS feeds that they are interested in. If they get yours, they sure are the target market.

Disseminating information online has become easier with RSS. The technology provided a cost-effective way of transferring facts and figures out. Utilizing it would definitely add up to your marketing approach. With it, you have an avenue of reaching out to even more people so easily.

RSS uses XML to syndicate pages. Though that sounds a little technical, there are a lot of websites that have user-friendly interface to guide in building your directory. Go ahead and put up your RSS directory now. RSS has proven to be essential. It has ceased to be an option; it has become a necessity.
